What do you all remember about the good ol' days?
I'd say the highlight of my scene times were tele-conferences. I used to laugh my ass off all night long. Pranking people, playing practical jokes on people, listenin to all the ansi scene fools, etc. It was a blast!
Another thing I though was funny was there was this service that you dialed into.. if you were disabled you could have someone call a person for you and that person would say everything you typed. It was halarious!
anyways.. what other good (or bad) times do you all remember about the artscene?

I always spent most of my time on conferences trying to figure out who was who. I recall some ostensibly "hilarious" moments on ACiD confs where they pranked video stores and the like, giving rise to the erstwhile slogan "Wax my butt."
I miss PD BBSes, and seeing people make the transition from the public to underground BBS scenes. I miss when the artscene was associated with the other underground scene in such a way that there was information flow between them, when an ansi was a viable trade for a phreak or for some warez. Everyone we see now is (more) fully-formed - we don't get to see them grow into the scene.
Wah.

I miss Paradise Lost...
Also, I miss the old BBS I cosysop'd ..Dimension X. There were some real philosophical debates there, and it makes me now realize how shallow and superficial the IRC is in comparison, and how cold and inhospitible the web site system is compared to BBS's.

an incident i'll never forget is when i was in union and nailz called me to let me know that the pack was coming out soon, asking me if i had any art for it. i told him that i did, and that i already sent it in.
THEY NEVER GOT IT.
and then union died.
FUCK!

I'll never forget joining acid back in '93 and having radman call me up every night for intimate phone sex. Those were the times.

I remember calling up a local artboard after getting referred by one of my 3r337 friends. It was the WHQ for some artgroup, and had lots of networked message bases. I posted some samples in hopes of getting into a decent group, and some wiseguy told me that my pics sucked.
Some guy named Stone the Crow.
Anyway, we ended up being friends and doing a couple joints. Crazy shit.

ah, the good ol days :).. i think for my time in the scene, it was at its peak when groups like shiver, relic, union, etc were all giving the "majors" (acid and ice) a run for their money in the skill department, and everyone in the scene was really active and everything was fun.
but personally, i'd have to say the year and a half or so that trip and i ran apathy was the fucking bomb.
hey, question for everyone: does anyone remember apathy? what do you remember about it? outside of "kick ass pack" we never got much feedback, but we still had a blast.

I remember that Apathy, like most of the groups we arranged with (Ophidiac, Project 301, Teklordz), died the month before Mistigris was scheduled to tour with it.
Ooh, you sordid cause of scheduling cock-ups! 8)

I remember Apathy as a tight team. I thought thst was cool. I find groups more and more pointless,
but tight units tend to rock. People who all work in the same direction. That's what Apathy was to me.

cool.. that's good to hear. i was talking to trip about possibly doing some kind of "where are they now? / best of" kind of one-shot pack, released alongside some new artwork by old apathy artists. i talked with some ex-members and they're all interested, but would the scene be? it's a lot of work, think it'd be worth the effort?

"good old days": september 1994 to december 1995.. the ansi felt itself at it's peak - y'all know the artists, no point me mentioning them all.. but union was one of my favorite crews of the day because they stood outside and showed mad canadian skills.. and at the same time the ascii scene was just getting going.. and it was wild days..
oh yes.. and the $10 ansi & phone sex combo deals maestro had.. oh man.. those were the days, even if I never got my ansi.. ;)
