		    SPRY Announces the PUBLIC Specification APP2SOCK* 

    Simplifies Application Development to Any TCP/IP Transports With Only 19 Calls.

September 27, 1993 -- Seattle, WA -- In response to the growing need for PC 
to UNIX and PC to Mainframe connectivity, SPRY, Incorporated announced today 
APP2SOCK.  APP2SOCK provides developers a high-layer Application 
Programming Interface (API) that bridges Windows applications for  
networks to multiple TCP/IP transports.  Previously, customers requiring 
connectivity applications have been forced to use the proprietary TCP/IP 
transport provided by the application vendor.  As a result, customers choosing 
a new transport are also forced to invest in new connectivity applications 
that support the transport. 

APP2SOCK supports Windows Sockets, Novell's WLIBSOCK and Sun 
Select's TKLIB socket libraries.  Future development will include APP2SOCK 
for Novell's IPX/SPX.  The APP2SOCK specification will help your 
customers transition from multiple APIs existing within their organization to 
the emerging WinSock standard, which will allow applications to work with a 
conformant protocol implementation from any network transport vendor.

The APP2SOCK.DLL is available for application and network vendors to ship
 for FREE with their product.  For developers, APP2SOCK reduces development 
time, speeds time to market and allows for more efficient resource allocation 
by allowing novice Windows developers a high layer API to program to.

APP2SOCK is a public specification and information pertaining to it can be 
obtained via SPRY's ftp server listed below.   With APP2SOCK, just 
19 calls are needed to support WinSock as well as leading proprietary 
interfaces.  Developing your applications once to APP2SOCK will enable 
application compatibility with virtually the entire market of TCP/IP 
transports.  Source code for APP2SOCK can be licensed from SPRY.

File), APP2SOCK.LIB (Library) and APP2SOCK.DLL (Binary runtime).
