How to install a HyperWave Server

There are about three different ways to install a HyperWave server (and upgrade from Hyper-G to HyperWave too):

  1. The preferred way is to use the new HyperWave Server Manager (hwsmanager), a graphical tool using netscape (or other HTML browsers) as graphical user interface. It is available at ftp://ftp.iicm.edu/pub/Hyper-G/Server/HyperWave_hwsm_06.09.96.tar.gz. For a description look at http://www.iicm.edu/hwsmanager.html.
You need to select the "beta" option. This tool also allows to fetch the code itself from an FTP mirror or from an incremental update server.

  2. The incremental update using the command-line tool hginstserver is also possible (use the -beta switch, see http://www.iicm.edu/hw-man/hginstserver). Be sure to fetch the latest version of hginstserver (ftp://ftp.iicm.edu/pub/Hyper-G/Server/hginstserver).

  3. You can still fetch tar files by FTP from ftp://ftp.iicm.edu/pub/Hyper-G/Server and use the hginsttar script contained within (see http://www.iicm.edu/hyperwave/install-tar-files). However, we are not sure that all the mirrors have already received the latest version.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The version distributed is a restricted evaluation version, which limits the number of users connected to the server simultaneously to 7. This is enough to try all the features of HyperWave, but not enough to use it as a real server. There are no other limitations of this version.

In order to upgrade to a full version, we ask you to fill out the form available at http://www.iicm.edu/hyperwave/registration. You will then receive a mail containing a License Upgrade File with installation instructions.

For non-commercial use by schools and universities the HyperWave server software is free of charge. All others will have to pay for a license.

FEEDBACK:

This is a BETA release. This means there may be bugs (there probably are in the new wavemaster module). Please send questions, bug reports and the like to hgsupport@iicm.edu.
